fan intro meme

took a page out of QNNNA's book and answered the fan intro meme in a webpage, because i am 99% sure i will go over the character limit, LOL. here is the link to the list of questions!

written december 2024.

1. What are your top three fandoms?

this is so hard! do i pick based on how formative they were to me, or based on my current interests? does my involvement in fan communities play a role? what if i enjoyed it quietly without participating??? what is the right way to answer??? ← reasons why mei is medicated for anxiety.

i will name one for each category:

  1. current interest: ducktales (2017)!
  2. impact on my life: pokemon. runner-up answer would be kpop, maybe?
  3. fan involvement: fire emblem three houses, with animal crossing new horizons following closely behind.

(i've cheated and listed five fandoms... this is going great already)

2. What are your top three blorbos?

ack!!! same dilemma!!! but since i have two current blorbos, this is a little bit easier. i'm currently enamored with huey duck and louie duck from ducktales (2017). (sorry dewey.)

i think my third would be grimsley from pokemon, just because i was so insane about him for a good period of time. this list changes periodically, but you can find more blorbos on my dedicated blorbos page here!

3. Are you a shipper? If yes: top three ships?

i am! i'm currently in a very long oc/canon phase, but ships that have historically made me insane to the point of creation include yuridetta (fe3h), flick/celeste (animal crossing), and standy (hamtaro). there exists a long list of other ships that have not made me insane to the point of creation, but insane nonetheless... you can find my list of ships at the bottom of this page.

4. What are your top three tropes?

5. What is your main role in fandom?

i would say artist! i really draw to feed the worms in my own brain, but occasionally it resonates with other people and for that i am happy. i am otherwise mostly a lurker, or a commenter on fics. i am my most unhinged fandom self in the company of good friends...!

6. Rec a fic! Why do you like it?

i will always recommend Loving Backwards by ao3 user GalaxyGazing. it's a meet the robinsons fic, with wilbur/lewis as the pairing.

it's heartwrenching, and it opened my eyes to how big brained and transformative fanworks could be... not that i hadn't known it before, but i think the combination of a source media i'd never think to write fic for + a direction i hadn't thought to take this particular media + sheer commitment to the bit was life-changing.

7. Rec a drawing! Why do you like it?

i really love seven-meds' ken (barbie movie) fanart – here's one. it's so toony and adorable, and it feels like the artist had fun drawing him in situations and clothes they specifically wanted to see on him. it's a way of making art i admire and want to emulate.

8. Rec another type of fanwork! Why do you like it?

couple different ones:

no other shade of blue but you is a manifesto for dimilix, an fe3h ship i adore. it's so well-compiled and well-written, and cites pretty much everything i go crazy about re: this ship. it also gives a newcomer all they need to start being insane about this ship in earnest. just a really amazing piece of fanwork.

the whole being dead thing is such a wonderful animation by a beetlejuice fan. i'm floored by the effort it took to make it, and how amazingly done it is!

i really adore this cute ducktales animatic (archived here on my tumblr in case OP deletes). i like thinking about huey, dewey, and louie's life with donald before the show, when all they had was each other, and this was just a heartwarming snapshot of what that might look like. the art is adorable.

an intellectual overanalysis of the blue lions haircuts from fire emblem warriors: three hopes. just a very good powerpoint presentation.

9. Tell us about a nice fan interaction you've had.

i attended my first con last year and brought some stickers i drew to give out to people – mostly acnh and fe3h, but i also printed out some tmnt mutant mayhem (2023) stickers for myself, because that was my obsession at the time. i made two sets – one for me, and one just in case i found a tmnt fan in the wild.

there happened to be one artist in the artist alley who sold mutant mayhem merch, sharing a booth with their friend! i bought stickers from them and it was a very warm, friendly interaction. i left their booth but then remembered i had my own stickers to give out, so i went back and quickly gave them the one (1) other set of mutant mayhem stickers i had printed (not for me) and they were SO excited about it. they pointed and yelled at the silly mikey i left on their table with so much enthusiasm.

there's something so nice about finding fans of The Slightly More Niche Thing You Like in a sea of more popular things!! it made me very happy.

10. What is your favorite part of being in fandom?

i love meeting likeminded people who are as weird about their faves as i am. i've made so many friends by being involved in online fandom, and have even met some friends irl! i also really appreciate how storied fandom history is. it feels very cool to be part of a phenomenon that has been around outside of the mainstream for so long and be able to contribute to its history and preservation.
