life

• born and raised in hearthome city — a warm family city, 5th largest in the pokemon world, pokemon contest central, center of commerce. lived very comfortably in an urban area!
• the youngest child in a loving upper-middle class family. lots of travel in her upbringing, so she and her siblings have all ended up in different regions.
• grew up around pokemon contests (her mother is a contest judge), hence the early interest in styling/makeup/spotlights. (i mean her siblings had the same background but she was the only one who entered/enjoyed it LOL…)
• did decently in contests - she has a natural “performer” way about her personality! – but wasn’t spectacular as a coordinator. was just fine, and was happy being just fine, except that the coordinator community was rough! :•)
  • hearthome in particular has high standards, so she felt insecure around her peers and it wasn’t always the most welcoming of communities. body stuff + the pressure/accusations of having her mother made it tough for her to find a genuine crowd. stuck it out anyway, but it super sucked!
• was interested in becoming a trainer since she saw her brother and sister do it, but dreaded what the other coordinators would say if she gave up contests. (headcanon: most hardcore hearthome coordinators were contest-exclusive and didn’t battle.)
  • outsiders could dabble in contests, but coordinators did not become trainers.
• eventually did it anyway, and started her trainer journey late as a result of sticking it out in contests for so long. but no regrets :^)

• started out mainly posting pokemon fashion and beauty content aimed at anyone, but mostly in accordance with her life on the go - makeup looks based on pokemon, simple/easy cute trainer outfits/makeup for the road, best skincare products for the weather of different cities, etc. - with the occasional travel + trainer content.
• moved to alola for a bit to do Beauty Research for her content and started to make more content about travel/culture/etc that alolan broadcasting networks really liked. they partner with her to make more on their channel :)
• after a bit more traveling, she eventually settled in lyros and was scouted as a gym trainer in lyros.

jigglypuff (“maron”): her older siblings caught her an igglybuff at the trophy garden when playing behind the mansion (because it reminded them of her lol). they grew to be inseparable besties; evolved with high friendship when milly was ~8. kind of the leader of the group by virtue of being around the longest and also being the least shy. he’s protective and has high standards for who milly hangs out with. could totally be a wigglytuff by now and milly has the moonstone and everything, but they’re holding off on it bc neither of them really feel like it’s time LOL.

sylveon (“choux”): obtained as an eevee - almost all the other contest goers had eevees and milly felt left out so her parents got her one too. this could have turned out so bad because she got him for the trend, but not for someone like milly who loves and bonds with anything under her care lmfao. they got really close (hence the sylveon evo). he’s the friendliest of the bunch towards strangers, and very reliable.

gardevoir (“bukko”): the first pokemon she met and befriended venturing out on her own as a trainer. was a very shy ralts but was drawn to her vibes i guess + the fact that she had food. of her pokemon, he is the pokemon most often in broadcast features and photoshoots with milly because he’s Beautiful, but she always has to spend a few days hyping him up before the shoot bc he’s so damn shy. incredibly sweet on milly, which is why he still agrees to do shoots lmao.

mimikyu (“QQ”): she found mimikyu when his disguise was busted and he was trying to fix it, at the abandoned mart in alola. he lashed out at her for fear of her discovering it under the disguise, but she just helped him!! trusted her very quickly after that (how easy). still a little reserved around anyone besides milly + the team but totally himself when he’s around them.

• milly’s “cuter” pokemon like jigglypuff and sylveon actually dislike sweet food, but gardevoir/mimikyu prefer it (according to their nature).
• part of why milly never became excellent at contests is that she entered her pokemon in whatever division suited their tastes (jigglypuff in “clever,” sylveon in “tough,” etc.) rather than in the divisions most people associate with that kind of pokemon (jigglypuff would probably be in “cute” and sylveon in “beauty” or “cute” too). she wanted them to do what suited them naturally!
  • she tried feeding maron a sweet poffin once and he gave her the cold shoulder for 3 straight days so she learned her lesson<3
• milly has had other, non-fairy type pokemon as a traveling trainer, but since becoming a fairy-type trainer and then gym leader, she’s spent the most time with the above four - she’s kind of gotta keep with the aesthetic
• also just so happens that she met igglybuff, eevee, and ralts in her youth and they all happened to grow into fairy types (if they weren’t already) LOL let’s just suspend disbelief ^__^

canon characters

piers: boyfie :) they become friends during milly’s year in galar doing tourism work. they develop their connection over a series of vlogs milly does in spikemuth and eventually start making excuses to hang out or see more of each other. they’re both painfully wrapped up in their own hangups so mutual pining (but with a little more clarity) ensues. eventually they work it out and start dating. on the surface seem like they wouldn’t jive as much as they do in reality, but they’re a surprisingly compatible pair.

milo: an older second cousin, on her mom’s side. she’s visited him a couple of times and they’re among each other’s favorites in their extended family, even though they don’t see each other often. milly vlogs hanging with the wooloo and helping milo at the farm. he invited her to stay at his place during her stint in galar, but she decided to rent out a place herself in a more urban part of the region.

marnie: milly’s usual content is geared towards girls of all ages, so she’s met many a fan marnie’s age and is as a result pretty good at talking with them. this applies also to marnie! milly is the kind of extrovert who works best with introverts so she knows how to make marnie feel at ease. marn is an Independent Gal but when she needs help she now has another person she can call on, especially for girl things.

raihan: milly watched his videos before she met him. his e-celebrity boomed kind of after her time (like the way streamers became more of a big thing after beauty vloggers were). milly’s a Content Consumer herself and was like “who is this hot guy” and tweeted a single #relatable thing about how hot she found raihan. they got in touch because of this and then ended up hitting it off and collabing. fans initially wanted to ship them bc it would have made a fun story but they are so Platonic. they’re good buds! raihan is who suggested milly for the tourism gig.

leon: professional relationship – he’s technically her boss since he’s now running galar’s biggest tourist attraction. they’re very chill and pleasant. they’re both very excitable and enthusiastic, but not necessarily around each other... maybe the sameyness makes it hard for them to super click. they are work friends.

opal: milly is terrified of opal, who reminds her of old coordinators she would rehearse under. as a result, she’s incredibly polite around her and never speaks out of turn. opal holds no ill will towards milly, but finds milly’s behavior around her amusing. milly is like this even when opal is being clearly friendlier (in her opal way - teasing, etc) because she doesn’t want to get too comfortable LOL

bede: milly was initially intimidated by him because he’s a Mean Youth and reminded her of bitchy contestgoers at first glance, but eventually realized he was harmless and just socially strange and like. an awkward teen boy. she’s very endeared by him, and is happy whenever he initiates the conversation.

nanu: milly’s EMBARRASSING crush back when she was in alola. she never got in trouble with the authorities or anything, but because she was usually out and about doing stuff for the alolan network, she naturally drew attention and nanu would interact with her during a slow hour, in his Middle Aged way. the more she saw of him, the more charmed she’d be. she acted like a fool and it was obvious to everyone but nanu that she had a big crush on this old man lol. he doesn’t give her more than a passing thought though rip

saturn: milly’s crush from school. i assume there is still a school you attend as a youth, so she knew him when they were kids. she found him cute, even though some of the other kids found him mean or annoying. he was always OK to her though, so she was like “:) he’s not that bad! maybe he just communicates weird!”... eventually she found out he joined a villain team and was like “yikes” and covered her face in shame as ivory clowned her for her taste in men

grimsley: impressed by his surfing but otherwise thinks he’s some creepy dude and never talks to him.

volo: he’s an urban legend told to kids of hearthome to keep them from straying too far from their super safe city. “there’s a creepy boogeyman who roams mt. coronet!!” milly still believes in him and fears him.

non-canon characters

• family: they’re close as can be, despite the distance. she and her siblings go home during the pokemon equivalent of thanksgiving/christmas season, and visit each other in their respective regions whenever possible. (usually it’s milly doing the visiting since she has the most travel flexibility.) a well-loved youngest child raised with a lot of care and support!

• ivory (she/her): childhood friend from hearthome who moves to lyros at some point as well. used to be a pokemon coordinator along with milly but more successful at it LMAO. eventually quit contests when her interests shifted, but is still a performer with pokemon (popular circus-esque performances) and gets invited to judge for pokemon contests. arguably milly’s #bestie who she turns to first for anything.

• valen (he/him): runs a fitness gym where milly works out. he’s her trainer and she curses him (affectionately) for making her life hard. checks in on her + designs her program even when she’s traveling a lot. organizes poke-thons and other fun fitness activities for people and their pokemon. has a sports bar business where people can watch pokemon matches, so he’s also dabbling in bartending. originally from johto.

• dori (she/they): milly’s friend from her study abroad in alola. does research on bug-type pokemon and interns in a pokemon lab; was also in alola for studying purposes (originally from kanto) and settled permanently. would not otherwise have become friends with milly if they did not meet in alola (outdoorsy dori + city girl milly = few common interests), but they get along swell. they video chat every now and then!

• hazel (she/her): a trainer-traveler milly met and befriended while on one of her own training-travels. a more seasoned traveler than milly is – uses her pokemon to get around the old-fashioned way (HMs) – and much more adventurous too. runs a popular vlog about her travels with lots of tips for other trainers, so collabs + battles with milly the few times they meet between trips. lives in the kalos region.

• cora (she/her): runs a little cafe/bakery close to milly’s pokemon gym, and also works out at valen’s gym, so met milly running into her multiple times. milly loves the sweets and atmosphere at cora’s place and buys from her at least once a week. moved to lyros from hoenn, and used to be a competitive trainer there before deciding on a change of pace. still battles for leisure + $$$ sometimes.

• york (they/them): works as a gym trainer at the circhester gym in galar. originally from oreburgh city, and is a rock-type trainer. honestly just came to galar to train in the wild area, but got spotted by nessa and sonia, who knew their friend gordie was in need of rock-type gym trainers, so they accidentally got recruited lmao. becomes fast friends with milly and is her one non-canon pal in galar #sinnohnatives.

• hiro (he/they): a native of lyros who was also in alola on a grant from the regional gov’t. collaborated with milly on alola broadcast content by making music; became pals that way. helped milly settle into lyros when she moved. plays a few sets at cora’s cafe every week. runs a music clinic for pokemon and kids when not making his own stuff. gave milly her first piers CD lol.

• enn (she/they): born and raised in konikoni city. grew up helping at her family’s store + hanging out at the alola photo club before starting to work various jobs for major alola tv networks, where she met milly. became milly’s bestie on the video crew and eventually got poached from alola by milly to be part of her channel’s crew. has a subfollowing as milly’s editor bc of their funny pokegram stories.
